Advera Health has partnered with leading drug information provider EvaluatePharma® to provide critical patient denominator numbers to better quantify and compare adverse event risks for drugs within the Evidex platform. This has initially been done with the following metrics throughout the site: adverse event (AE) reporting rates and outcome rates for specific drugs.
Calculations:
Reporting Rate = Number of Primary Suspect AE Case Reports in a given year ÷ Number of US Patients Treated in given year
Outcome Rate = Number of Specific Outcomes in a given year ÷ Number of US patients treated in given year
Our Evidex platform also provides a multi-year average reporting rate and multi-year average outcome rates to smooth out large changes in reporting for a drug in specific years.
EvaluatePharma® Methodology
The number of patients treated is pulled exclusively from EvaluatePharma®, using either their Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) medical expenditures panel survey (MEPS) Patient Estimates or Sales Based Patient estimates. The MEPS patient estimates are presumed to be more accurate and are used as the final patient number when data from both sources is available.
MEPS Patient Estimates (Data available between 2005 and 2014)
An estimate of the number of patients in the USA market receiving a drug based on the annual MEPS survey. The survey is based on 13,000 families, 35,000 individuals and 350,000 prescription drug events each year. The survey findings have been scaled-up to give a representative view of the USA primary care drug market. EvaluatePharma® has selectively analysed key proprietary drugs where the MEPS survey is representative, namely high-volume prescription drugs. The MEPS number of patients treated is an accurate figure for high prescription volume products. The MEPS number of patients are taken directly from the MEPS survey estimates and are not further modified by Evaluate or Advera Health.
Sales-Based Patient Estimates (Data available between 2009 and 2018)
An estimate of the number of patients in the USA market receiving a drug, in a given year. EvaluatePharma® calculated based on disclosed USA sales divided by the revenues per patient per year (Cost per patient, adjusted for patient compliance rate (%) and off-invoice discount).
Number of Patients Treated = USA Sales ÷ Cost Per Patient Per Year * Compliance % * Off-Invoice Discount
Drug Compliance % = Mg Per Patient (observed) ÷ Mg per Patient per Year (calculated based on label)
